Cervical Laminoplasty

Writer's picture: Dr. Steven MatherDr. Steven Mather

This procedure is primarily for patients who have 3 to 4 segments of cervical stenosis and who do not have neck pain, but primarily arm pain, numbness, or weakness. It allows a quicker recovery and maintenance of most of the cervical range of motion. It is performed from the back of the neck. The spinal canal is hinged open and held in place with several small titanium plates. However, only certain patients meet the criteria for this approach. This 53-year old male had an excellent recovery, with resolution of all of his arm pain, full return of strength and sensation. He maintained all of his cervical motion as well.
